Harrison Pensa is hiring a permanent, full-time Legal Assistant to join our Family Law department. This department oversees matters regarding spousal separation such as custody, division of property, access, and spousal support, as well as matters concerning a child such as adoption, surrogacy agreements, and alternative reproductive law issues. This is overseen through litigation, alternative dispute resolution and/or the preparation of domestic contracts. We are currently seeking a candidate with an interest in family law, highly organized, and a team player.
Key Responsibilities
- Communicating frequently with clients regarding potential changes to files, court proceedings or practices;
- Organizing and maintaining the daily schedule and operations of lawyer(s) to whom they report to, communicating and meeting filing deadlines;
- Utilizing various Microsoft Office and process servers to schedule various appointments, questionings, or meetings, organize calendar events, and correctly arrange for service/filing of court documents;
- Performing administrative duties, including; opening/closing files, filing paper and electronic documents, entering dockets, preparation of accounts, billing, arranging couriers, faxing, preparing and drafting correspondence under supervision of a lawyer;
- Assisting other lawyers within the practice group when necessary;
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Post-Secondary Law Clerk diploma is required;
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant/Law Clerk, more work experience is an asset;
- Highly organized with attention to detail who can prioritize workloads and meet deadlines;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Independent and able to thrive in high-volume, fast-paced environments, while working and contributing to a team setting;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
